It's Finally Sunny in Philadelphia

So the Phillies did it - and with some authority - taking the Series from the Rays in 5 games. So will Phillie fans now forgive Mitch Williams in the way Sawks fans forgave Buckner? Will John Kruk weep on the set of Baseball Tonight? Will Cole Hamels donate that new Chevy Camaro to Bleacher Preachers? Only time will tell, but if you've been listening to the Preachers, you knew the Phils were going to win it all along. If only the economy were as easy to predict!

Wow! The Philadelphia Phillies have won the 2008 World Series. Only their second pennant in their 126th year history. So I will relish this one because it might be the last one that I get to enjoy in my lifetime!
Truly it seems like a dream but this is real. They had a parade on Friday and it wasn't in Boston, St. Louis or New York but in Philadelphia.
Sure the opponent Tampa Bay didn't have any history of winning until this season but they showed that their youth could play with the money stocked teams of Boston and New York. So at least Philadelphia won or else they would have had the same amount of titles as Tampa Bay!
Well, I honestly couldn't believe that the Phillies could get men on 3rd base with zero or one outs and not get them home in first few games. I felt really fortunate to come back to Philly tied 1-1 in the series.
But oh the wacky weather they had in Philadelphia.
To start a game at 10 pm on the east coast is just wrong for Baseball.. It all television. Now it made sense because the weather did get worse through the week. But it honestly takes away the kids from watching the game. How about game 4 though. Joe Blanton hitting homerun --first pitcher in 34 years to do it in the world series. But game 5 should have never been played on Monday night. That weather was horrible and was not favorable for either team. Like I said it's all about the tv contract.
I don't blame MLB that had they stopped the game when it was 2-1 that they would have called a rain delay and the game would continue at later date.
They do need to update their rule book to make sure all Playoff games go to through the 9th inning and not stop it midway due to weather and award a victory for less than 9 innings played.
It was nice to see Jamie Moyer win his first ring. 22 years in the big leagues. Chris Coste a guy who a rookie at the age of 33. What a story that guy is. Never forgetting the dream of playing ball.
Actually I heard in postgame interview with Coste that Carlos Ruiz stuffed the last ball in his back pocket before the pileup so he wouldn't lose it.
Carlos told Coste before the game that if he got the ball, the plan was to give the ball to Charlie Manuel. So at the end of the game, Lidge and Ruiz presented the ball to Manuel. What a nice gesture!
This was probably the last game for Pat Burrell. Thanks Pat but see ya! Thanks for hitting that double that ended up with the winning run scored by Brunlett.. I wonder how many people in Philly knew about Brunlett before he came over with Lidge in the trade with the Astros for Michael Bourn. As right now, that was a steal of deal getting Lidge.
Lidge was a perfect 48- for 48 this season.
I got hear the Phillies radio broadcast so I put the Tv volume low. What a pleasure it was to hear Harry Kalas call the last few outs. Many don't know this but in 1980 when the Phillies won. Team broadcasters were not allowed to call World Series games. Phillie fans detested this rule and so since 1981, team broadcasters can call the game only for the flagship stations of the teams. So this was Kalas' third world series that he got to call-- 1983.1993. and 2008. But the first time he could say the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES ARE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!

Thanks for your thoughts Glenn! It'll be good to get a Phillie fan's perspective on the air. Congrats!
